This summer, the Green Teens developed and implemented "green-themed" programming for children and their families in LICM's Our Backyard. These activities included creating wind mobiles; engaging in star activities, exercising, learning about and cooking with fresh vegetables, and learning about different types of birds that live on Long Island.
This past year, the water wall and its activities were upgraded. A new Archimedean screw prototype was added and four large shade sails were designed and installed over Our Backyard and H2Oh! The new horticulturalist treated trees for a variety of ailments and restarted and increased the composting program.
Extending the exposure to Long Island's natural environment, Our Backyard provides children a large variety of diverse interactive opportunities in nature education.
