The Nature Explore Classroom at
Pioneers Park Nature Center
Pioneers Park Nature Center is celebrating their 2nd year as a certified Nature Explore Classroom.
Pioneers Park Nature Center has expanded their original boundaries this year to include stepping stumps into their design. A few weathered items were replaced this year to maintain the safety, beauty and functionality of the classroom.
Since Pioneers Park is a family destination and far enough away from neighborhoods, staff are finding that families spend a lot of time in the Nature Explore Classroom, especially on weekends and in the summer. They have found that the average time spent per visit is approximately one hour.
Two family nights were held during the year. These specially designated times incorporated a night hike along with time spent in the outdoor classroom.
Staff professional development included Growing Up Wild, a Project Wild training class, offered to preschool teachers for ages 3-7 at the Center.
